Found out it has tremolo, spring reverb (with tone), effects loop, etc. I made sure to crank it up and hear 'the chime', and played around with dirtier tones using the master/volume. It really compares well to the SCXD for "bedroom" level playing-full and warm at low levels with the 2x12s giving the sound more 'spread' than the smaller single 10" of the Super Champ. Same postiive reaction to its warm inviting sound. I played through it soon after for my wife to hear. Reminded me of an old console radio/turntable, with its almost distant warm sounds at low volumes. He played at least enough like me that I could walk around hear the amp from a distance. I declined and encouraged him to keep at it. Guy said he had just got one himself, and offered me the set up. Nice playing from the dude operating things, too. Then during some idle time at the store, head down in the pedal display, I heard The Perfect Amp Tone, the tone I've always wanted. Wife thought it sounded worse than the SXCD. Great tone at gig volumes, but nothing new for me. Past 5 on the volume, the DRRI changed dramatically-oops I promised no drama-the mids fattened up and we heard some cool break up.

At low volumes it was flatter and more boring than the SCXD. Problem is, it sounded just like the SCXD only louder. Time and budget is right for me to get That Really Good Amp right now, so Wife and I go looking.ĭRRI was The Front Runner and Why Not? It's got the great Fender cleans I love, but lots more volume. But I need more than 15W, if only occasionally. The ladies like Cetera, ergo I like Cetera.Ĭurrent amp has been a Super Champ XD and it is great! Silver Faced Fender amps were part of my youth and the SCXD always reminds me of the Princeton Reverb. What sounds good to her, sounds good to me. So she is a key part of every instrument purchase. I know her tastes well, and she knows mine.

I'm going to re-tell the same story, sans drama.īest part of the other thread was discussion of buying cool stuff for my wife prior to going amp shopping. I'm starting a new thread to move past the old thread.
